ABSTRACT The facsimile apparatus comprises a main body (2), an image reading system (3) for reading graphic material on a recording medium, transportation means (4) for transporting the recording medium past a reading location (18) at which the graphic material is read by the image reading system (3), and support means (22) onto which the image reading system (3) is mounted. The support means (22) and the main body (2) have cooperating pivot members (35,36) enabling the support means (22) to pivot about an axis adjacent the reading location (18) between a normal position, in which the image reading system (3) is supported in a reading relation with the reading location (18), and a displaced position, such that the image reading system (3) is maintained in the reading relation in the displaced position.
