A facsimile system and method provides authentication of transmitted image information, which authentication may be in the form of a signature page. An authentication device computes authentication information at a sending device, a receiving device, both, or at a remote location during transmission. The signature page may also be transmitted with the document. The sending and receiving devices may each generate signature pages or acknowledgement of receipt in response to receiving a signature page. The authentication information may be encrypted with a public/private key pair. The authentication information may be in the form of a checksum, and may be prepared based on separate regions of the document. A previously generated signature page is compared to a newly generated signature page to verify the document content or authenticity. Document authentication signatures may include machine-readable symbols to represent the authentication information.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un système de télécopie offrant l'authentification d'information d'image transmise, laquelle authentification peut prendre la forme d'une page de signature. Un dispositif d'authentification calcule pendant la transmission l'information d'authentification à un dispositif émetteur, à un dispositif récepteur, aux deux dispositifs ou à un emplacement éloigné. La page de signature peut aussi accompagner le document. Les dispositifs émetteur et récepteur peuvent chacun générer des pages de signature ou accuser réception en réponse à la réception d'une page de signature. L'information d'authentification peut être encryptée avec une paire de clés privées/publiques. L'information d'authentification peut prendre la forme d'une somme de contrôle, et peut être préparée en fonction des régions distinctes du document. Une page de signature générée antérieurement est comparée à une page de signature nouvellement générée en vue de vérifier le contenu du document ou son authenticité. Les signatures d'authentification de document peuvent comprendre des symboles lisibles par machine pour représenter l'information d'authentification.
