FALL ALERT SYSTEM ABSTRACT A fall alert system (100) for informing monitoring personnel at a remote location when a monitored person falls. In one embodiment, a monitoring device (120) is positioned proximate a bed. A harness (36), having a ferromagnetic shunt (34) at one end, is attached to the person to be monitored. While the person is lying in bed, the shunt (34) is attached to a sensing means (18). When the monitored person is about to fall out of bed, the shunt (34) detaches from the sensing means (18), alerting monitoring personnel. Another embodiment is disclosed for monitoring mobile persons that wander from room to room in a their home or facility.
