A novel family of primate IL-3-like polypeptides is provided via recombinant techniques, wherein said polypeptides are substantially free from other primate proteins. Pharmaceutical compositions containing a therapeutic amount of these peptides may be used in methods for treating a number of disease states characterized by a deficiency in the level of hematopoietic cells.
