Provided is an air-cooling arrangement for cooling electric engines where the electric engine has: a rotor (20); a stator (30) mounted co-axially to said rotor (20), and at least one fan (10,40) for providing cooling air to the rotor (20) and stator (30). A partition (60) mounted between the rotor (20) and the stator (30) extends along the axial length of the rotor (20) so as to segregate cooling airflow and thus prevent the axial flow of cooling air from the rotor (20) to the stator (30). In this way only cooling airflow required to cool the rotor needs to be exposed to the rotor (20) eliminating energy loss created by the unnecessary acceleration of excess cooling air by the fast rotating rotor (20). The partition (60) further enables the use of two part cooling fans (10,40) each with inner (11,41) and outer (12,42) portions where the inner fan portion (11,41) has opposite fan pitch to the outer fan portion (12,42).
