An imaging apparatus which can be used to capture high-quality iris images for identification of a person. The iris imager as in the figure comprises a camera (105), a cold mirror (120), a lens (110), an illuminator (130), and a focus assessment processor. The imager has sensors and indicators which assist a user in aligning and focusing the device. The imager also automatically captures the image when proper positioning is achieved. The focus assessment processor accesses the image and applies certain measurement routines to assess the focus. The output of the focus assessment processor is used to control an indicator. A template representative of the iris features is extracted and then compared to a database of previously stored templates to identify the person.
L'invention porte sur un système d'imagerie servant à prendre des images de haute qualité de l'iris en vue de l'identification d'un individu. Ledit système, illustré par la figure, comprend une caméra (105), un miroir froid (120), une lentille (110), un illuminateur (130), et un processeur évaluant la distance focale, ainsi que des détecteurs et indicateurs aidant à aligner et focaliser le dispositif. Le système prend automatiquement l'image lorsque le positionnement idoine est atteint. Le processeur de mise au point évalue l'image et applique certaines routines de mesure de mise au point, ses signaux de sortie servant à commander un indicateur. On obtient ainsi un motif représentatif des particularités de l'iris qu'on compare à une base de données de motifs préalablement enregistrés pour identifier l'individu.
