24 FAST NEUTRON MODERATOR FOR ACCELERATOR IN THERMAL NEUTRON RADIOGRAPHY SYSTEM ABSTRACT An apparatus for producing a thermal neutron radiograph includes an inspection head with an accelerator neutron generator mounted with a generator target positioned within the inspection head. The inspection head is filled with a moderating fluid. A collimator is mounted with its inlet window positioned within the moderating fluid in the inspection head. The neutron generator includes an evacuated tube with the target mounted on an extension The tube is supported substantially coaxially within an elongated housing to provide a space therebetween. A system is provided for circulating an hydrogeneous, electrically insulative moderating liquid in the space provided between the evacuated tube and housing to reduce radiation leakage, enhance the number of available thermal neutrons for radiography and provide electrical insulation against the high potential across the tube.
