A fast quench reaction includes a reactor chamber having a high temperature heating means such as a plasma torch at its inlet and a restrictive convergent-divergent nozzle at its outlet end. Reactants are injected into the reactor chamber. The resulting heated gaseous stream is then rapidly cooled by passage through the nozzle. This "freezes" the desired end product(s) in the heated equilibrium reaction stage.

Cette invention concerne une réaction de refroidissement rapide se déroulant dans une chambre de réacteur, laquelle chambre comporte un dispositif de chauffage à haute température, tel qu'une torche à plasma, à son extrémité d'entrée, et un convergent-divergent restrictif à son extrémité de sortie. Des réactifs sont injectés dans la chambre du réacteur et le flux gazeux chaud ainsi obtenu est ensuite rapidement refroidi lors de son passage par le convergent-divergent. Ce procédé permet de "geler" le ou les produits finaux voulus lors de la phase d'équilibrage de la réaction à haute température.
