CA 2042362

2042362 9104423 PCTABS00003 A fastener comprising an elongate shank (1) having a workpiece engaging end (3) and a driving end (2). The shank (1) is provided with at least one protrusion (5) characterized by having a leading edge (7) and a trailing edge (8). The leading edge (7) is oriented in a direction non-parallel to any plane containing the longitudinal axis of the shank (1). The angle subtended between the leading edge (7) and the longidudinal axis towards the driving end (2) is less than 90 degrees and chosen such that, in use, the fastener may be driven into the workpiece, the angle subtended between the trailing edge (8) and the longitudinal axis towards the driving end (2) being such that the trailing edge (8) resists removal of the fixing member from the workpiece. Preferably the protrusion (5) is welded to the shank (1).
