ABSTRACT A fastener made out of a strip of metal is used to establish a temporary connection between adjacent gratings such as metal components used to surface roadways for instance. Each side of the fastener has flanking attachments that point downwards, that are separated and opposite each other, and that fit into recesses in the gratings. The flanking attach- ments are parallel to each other in such a way that the top of the fastener is shaped like a U. The distance between the two flanking attachments it slightly greater than twice the width of an edging strip on the gratings. The flanking attachments are slightly longer than the edging strip is deep. The ends of the flanking attachments are continuously flanged on the inside, so that displacement of the adjacent gratings relative to each other is prevented, and the fastener remains tightly in place against motions of the gratings.
