PATENT APPLICATION PAPERS OF CHARLES F. SCHULTZ FOR: FASTENER ASSEMBLY WITH INTEGRAL ANTI-ROTATION DEVICE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of forming a fastener assembly, such as a stud or insert, having an integral anti-rotation device. A cylindrical blank is first operated on such that an angularly, cup shaped flange portion is formed thereon. The blank is then forced through a die, the flange portion to being forced to a position substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the blank and to simultaneously form serrations thereon thus producing an anti- rotation type device. After thermal treatment, threads are form on the blank and the blank is then coated or plated in a conventional manner. The length of the anti-rotation device is longer than the length of the mating counterbore in the parent material by a predetermined amount. The fastener is then screwed into the parent material cavity until the anti-rotation device shoulder bottoms in the counterbore. A drive tool places a downward force on the fastener swaging or collapsing the serrated portion of the device and forcing it into the parent material thus locking the fastener against rotational or torsional forces. -2-
