A strip of collated fasteners is disclosed, which comprises a plurality of fasteners and a carrier molded from a polymeric material. Each fastener has an elongate shank, which has a pointed end, and a head. The shank of each fastenerdefines an axis and has two portions of different diameters, namely a thicker portion adjoining the head and a thinner portion adjoining the pointed end, and a shoulder joining the thicker and thinner portions. The carrier comprises a separate sleeve associated with each fastener and is frangible between the separate sleeves. A representative sleeve is disposed around the shank of the associatedfastener and has an initial axial length, which the representative sleeve assumes when disposed around the shank of the associated fastener but not compressed axially, and a critical axial length, at which the representative sleeve splits when disposed around the shank of the associated fastener and compressed axially. Thethicker portion of the shank of each fastener has an axial length between the initial and critical lengths of the associated sleeve. The representative sleeve has a pair of outwardly opening, similarly curved, concave recesses, each having an open window, from which a portion of the shank of the associated fastener is visible.
Cette invention concerne une bande de clous servant à alimenter un pistolet cloueur et qui se compose d'une série de clous placés dans une bande porteuse en polymère. Chaque clou présente une tige allongéequi se termine par une pointe à un bout et par une tête à l'autre bout. La tige de chaque clou définit un axe et comporte deux segments à diamètre différent, soit un segment plus gros à proximité de la tête et un segment plus fin côté pointe, les deux étant séparés par un épaulement. La bande porte-clous comporte une série de manchons distincts destinés à recevoir les clous, et elle est frangible entre manchons consécutifs. Chaque manchon entoure un clou et présente une longueur initiale qu'il conserve jusqu'à ce qu'il soit soumis à une force de compression axiale et une longueur critique où, comprimé axialement, il se fend en deux. Le gros segment de la tige des clous a une longueur axiale comprise entre la longueur initiale et la longueur critique du manchon. Chaque manchon comporte une paire d'évidements concaves de même courbure ouvrant vers l'extérieur et définissant une fenêtre permettant de voir la partie correspondante du clou y inséré.
