ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fastener of the lock bolt type that is a pin having lock grooves and collar swaged into said locking grooves in which the locking grooves are proportioned for stiffness and strength to enable predetermined load distribution across the lock grooves. Each of the grooves increases in size as distance from the sheet line increases and each of the following respective shoulders increases in stiffness as the distance from the sheet line increases. The fastener can be produced with a reduced weight and still produce a fastener system which has greater tensile strength and less chance of fatigue or stress corrosion failures.
