ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A FASTENING DEVICE OF THE CLAMP TYPE A fastening device of the clamp type includes a strap that is adapted to be wound about an object and that has a respective end portion at each end having complementary anchoring means for maintaining the strap in a wound configuration about the object. Each end portion of the strap includes a gripping arrangement that cooperates with a tightening tool to tighten the strap about the object and to bring the anchor of one end portion into engaging relation with the anchor of the other end portion. One of the gripping devices includes a relief that is formed in the strap, the relief being joined along a peripheral portion thereof to the strap. The peripheral portion has a mechanical resistance to stress that is less than that of the strap, so the peripheral portion is adapted to be torn by the tool during the tightening operation when the strap is tightened about the object.
