ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A guide disk is fitted onto the shank of a fastening element such as a nail, which is driven into a receiving material by an explosive charge driven setting gun. The disk has a diameter greater than the head of the fastening element. Generally radially extending slots are formed in the outer circumferential edge of the disk. The slots are located on diametrically opposed sides of the disk and each slot has a size and shape sufficient to receive and hold the shank of other fastening elements. A band-shaped magazine of such fastening elements and guide disks can be formed by arranging the fastening element shanks in parallel relation and by fitting the slots of the guide disks about the shanks of adjacent fastening elements. The guide disks may overlap one another with the nails arranged in an offset manner with respect to each other. The nail heads may also overlap, if desired, resulting in a more compact strip or band.
