In a fastening element (1) for inserting into a bore (2) of a workpiece (3), a shank (5) which can be inserted into a bore (2) and is provided with a roughened and/or profiled surface (4) and if need be a stop collar (6) is provided. The fastening element (1) is formed from a possibly fibre- reinforced, elastically deformable material, wherein its shank (5) can be inserted or is inserted frictionally into the bore (2) while being elastically deformed.
