The present invention provides a fatty acid derivative labeled with a radioactive transition metal which is recognized as an energy substrate in living body, and is metabolized by .beta.-oxidation, so that changes of said .beta.-oxidation activity can be detected as changes of elimination rate of the radioactivity. Said fatty acid derivative having a straight-chain or branched-chain labeled with a transition metal is represented by the general formula (1), Q-RCOOH (1) wherein, Q is a chelating group forming a neutral complex with a radioactive transition metal, R is a group of the formula : R=-(CR1R2)n-, wherein, n is 4 - 9; R1 and R2 are each individually a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group.
