A fault-current-limiting circuit to be used in combination with a poly-phase circuit is disclosed. The poly-phase circuit comprises a plurality of inductive windings each having a first terminal connected to a common point. At least one of the windings has a second terminal connected to an electrical load. The fault- current-limiting circuit comprises first and second electrical paths between the common point and ground. The first electrical path comprises a current-limiting device having a first state whereat current passes through the device and a second state whereat current substantially does not pass through the device. The device switches from the first state to the second state when current through the device exceeds a pre- determined maximum. The second path has an electrical resistance significantly greater than a resistance of the first path when the device is in the first state.

Le premier passage électrique comprend un limiteur de courant dont le premier état permet au courant de traverser le dispositif et dont le second état ne permet pas de traverser le dispositif. Le limiteur passe du premier état au second état lorsque le courant qui le traverse excède un seuil maximal prédéterminé. La résistance électrique du second passage est considérablement supérieure à la résistance du premier passage lorsque le limiteur est dans le premier état.
