A superconducting coil (10) includes a first superconductor (18) formed of an anisotropic superconducting material for providing a low-loss magnetic field characteristic for magnetic fields parallel to the longitudinal axis of the coil (10) and a second superconductor (22) having a low loss magnetic field characteristic for magnetic fields perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the coil (10). The first superconductor (18) has a normal state resistivity characteristic conductive for providing current limiting in the event that the superconducting magnetic coil (10) is subjected to a current fault.

L'invention concerne une bobine supraconductrice (10) comportant un premier supraconducteur (18) constitué par une matériau supraconducteur anisotrope permettant de conférer une caractéristique de champ magnétique à faibles pertes aux champs magnétiques parallèles à l'axe longitudinal de la bobine (10) et un second supraconducteur (22) présentant une caractéristique de champ magnétique à faibles pertes aux champs magnétiques perpendiculaires à l'axe longitudinal de la bobine (10). Le premier supraconducteur (18) présente une caractéristique de résistivité d'état normal propre à favoriser la limitation de courant dans le cas où la bobine magnétique supraconductrice (10) subit un défaut du courant.
