A favorites GUI for a TV (12) includes a carousel-type display of icons (46) representing user-defined favorites that is overlaid on the current background video of the TV (12), with the center-most icon (46) being the 'current' icon (46) and being enlarged relative to the other icons (46). Live video appears in icons (46) representing TV channels. Other icons (46) can represent, e.g., favorite photo/music files, favorite games from a game console, favorite content from an ambient player, etc.
