FCC CLOSED CYCLONE PROCESS AND APPARATUS Abstract of the Disclosure A process and apparatus for separating catalyst from cracked hydrocarbon product gas in a fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) unit. In a vertical separation embodiment, a cyclone separator (26) inlet (24) is located in the upper portion of a riser reactor (10) and draws off gaseous hydrocarbon materials, while catalyst particles continue vertically to the end (14) of the riser (10), and pass through a catalyst conduit (54) to a catalyst storage area. In a horizontal separation embodiment, the catalyst/ hydrocarbon mixture is transported horizontally from the end (14) of the riser (10) past a cyclone separator inlet (24) towards a catalyst conduit (54). The cyclone inlet (24) draws off the gas while the catalyst passes through the catalyst conduit to a catalyst storage area.
