The invention provides a method and system of generating a caricatured image which takes into account facial features, and applies caricaturing to each feature area independently. This is achieved by defining within a reference image predefined feature areas, and then finding corresponding areas in an input image to the reference feature areas. A caricatured image is then generated by taking points within the input image in turn, and determining within which feature area a point lies. A corresponding caricature point can then be found depending upon the feature area in which the point was found to lie.

Cette invention concerne un procédé et un système permettant de générer une image caricaturée qui prend en considération des caractéristiques faciales et qui applique la caricature à chaque zone de caractéristiques indépendamment. Pour ce faire, le procédé consiste à définir des zones de caractéristiques prédéfinies dans une image de référence ; à trouver les zones dans une image d'entrée correspondant aux zones de caractéristiques de référence ; à générer une image caricaturée au moyen d'un repérage de points dans l'image d'entrée, puis à déterminer la zone de caractéristiques dans laquelle un point se trouve. Un point de caricature correspondant peut alors être trouvé en fonction de la zone de caractéristiques dans laquelle on a trouvé le point.
