ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A feed roll for axially feeding elongated objects, particularly tree trunks or portions thereof, the feed roll consisting of a solid of rotation rotatable about an axis, the peripheral mantle surface of said solid being provided with a plurality of protrusions, spikes or studs distributed over the mantle surface and extending substantially radially outwardly from same. The mantle surface is externally covered by a compressible layer of an elastic material, said layer having a thickness which is less than the radial length of the protrusions, spikes or studs extending from said mantle surface, said layer being tightly connected to or tightly abutting said spikes, etc.
