Abstract of the Disclosure In an induction heating device for heating an elongated workpiece, wherein an elongated push rod forces the workpiece toward and through a multi-turn induction heating coil which is energized when the workpiece reaches a preselected position with respect to the coil, a pulse generating device responsive to the movement of the push rod creates a train of pulses, each pulse of which indicates a preselected amount of axial move- ment of the push rod with respect to the coil wherein a digital counter counts the pulses in the train during the movement of the rod and energizes the coil when the counter reaches a pre- selected level corresponding to the preselected position.
