ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a drive or feeding roll or roller the surface of which is permanently provided with spikes or equivalent grasping means which project sub- stantially radially beyond the surface proper of the roll. The invention provides an essential reduction in spike damage, the feeding roll being mainly characterized in that it is coated with a layer of rubber or with a layer of any other, equivalent elastic material in view of reducing the spike damage caused to the wood material to be fed. - 1 -
