ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A felting needle having on its forward operating part a barbed portion with at least one barb, the operating end of the needle having a smooth rear portion which is strengthened by about 10- 20% (preferably 16%) as compared to the forward barbed portion of the operating part of the needle. The barb or barbs have radius rounding of the base surface of the groove, the forward surface of the barb, and the root of the barb.
