ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is provided herein for the production of hypocholesteremic compounds, e.g., Lovastatin or Mevastatin. The process comprises fermenting a micro-organism of the genus Coniothyrium, e.g., Coniothyrium fuckelii, in a suitable medium containing specified quantities of glucose, corn starch, soybean flour, meat extract, peptone and sodium, potassium and magnesium salts, the medium having a slightly acidic, and then recovering such compounds therefrom.
