The present invention relates to newly identified microorganisms capable of direct production of L-ascorbic acid (hereinafter also referred to as Vitamin C). The invention also relates to polynucleotide sequences comprising genes that encode proteins which are involved in the synthesis of Vitamin C. The invention also features polynucleotides comprising the full length polynucleotide sequences of the novel genes and fragments thereof, the novel polypeptides encoded by the polynucleotides and fragments thereof, as well as their functional equivalents. The present invention also relates to the use of said polynucleotides and polypeptides as biotechnological tools in the production of Vitamin C from microorganisms, whereby a modification of said polynucleotides and/or encoded polypeptides has a direct or indirect impact on yield, production, and/or efficiency of production of the fermentation product in said microorganism. Also included are methods/processes of using the polynucleotides and modified polynucleotide sequences to transform host microorganisms. The invention also relates to genetically engineered microorganisms and their use for the direct production of Vitamin C.

La présente invention concerne des microorganismes récemment identifiés en mesure de produire directement de l'acide L-ascorbique (également appelé ci-après vitamine C). L'invention concerne en outre des séquences polynucléotidiques comprenant des gènes codant pour des protéines impliquées dans la synthèse de la vitamine C. L'invention concerne en outre des polynucléotides comprenant les séquences polynucléotidiques pleine longueur des nouveaux gènes et leurs fragments, les nouveaux polypeptides codés par les polynucléotides et leurs fragments, ainsi que leurs équivalents fonctionnels. La présente invention concerne en outre l'utilisation desdits polynucléotides et polypeptides en tant qu'outils biotechnologiques dans la production de vitamine C à partir de microorganismes, la modification desdits polynucléotides et/ou polypeptides codés ayant un impact direct ou indirect sur le rendement, la production et/ou l'efficacité de la production du produit de fermentation dans ledit microorganisme. L'invention concerne également des méthodes/procédés d'utilisation des polynucléotides et des séquences polynucléotidiques modifiées en vue de transformer des microorganismes hôtes. L'invention concerne en outre des microorganismes génétiquement modifiés et leur utilisation pour produire directement de la vitamine C.
