Ferroelectric liquid crystal devices are described which contain liquid crystal mixtures comprising components A and B. Component A consists of one or more optically active compounds capable of imparting a spontaneous polarisation to the material. Component B is selected as one or more compounds having formula (I), wherein a, b and c are independently 0, 1, 2; R1 and R2 are C1-15 straight or branched chain alkyl or alkoxy, preferably C3-C12. In the above (for component B) CH=CH linking groups may be replaced by C2H4 and CH2O linking groups may be replaced by OCH2.
L'invention se rapporte à des dispositifs ferroélectriques à cristaux liquides contenant des mélanges de cristaux liquides comportant les constituants A et B. Le constituant A est formé d'un ou de plusieurs composé(s) actif(s) optiquement, aptes à conférer à la matière une polarisation spontanée. Le constituant B est choisi parmi un ou plusieurs des composés ayant la formule (I) dans laquelle a, b et c valent indépendamment 0, 1, 2; R¿1? et R¿2? représentent alcoxy ou alkyle C¿1-15?, de préférence C¿3-12?, à chaîne linéaire ou ramifiée. Dans la formule (I) (constituant B), les groupes de liaison CH=CH peuvent être remplacés par C¿2?H¿4? et les groupes de liaison CH¿2?O peuvent être remplacés par OCH¿2?.
