Abstract: The invention provides a ferromagnetic powder com- prising a magnetic metal oxide powder and a magnetic metal layer comprising at least one metal selected from iron, cobalt and nickel. The metallic layer is formed on the surfaces of the powder particles and has an easy axis of magnetization in substantially the same direction as that of the powder particles, themselves, The powder has improved coercive force and saturation magnetization and is thus suitable for use in a magnetic recording medium.
