The present invention provides a solid fertilizer rod formulated specifically to satisfy the nutritional needs of flower bulbs, which incorporates a vermin repellant to protect bulbs from vermin, and which visibly marks the location of underground bulbs. The upper end of the fertilizer rod is preferably provided with a brightly coloured indicator cap comprising a neck portion and a head portion, the indicator cap marking the location of the bulb when it is dormant and not being too noticeable when the bulb is in bloom. The cap is preferably provided with prongs which stick into the soil and hold the cap in position after the shaft of the fertilizer rod has disintegrated.
