A fiber glass carrier having a high surface area is disclosed for use as a carrier for photo-active materials, such as photocatalyst materials and photovoltaic materials. The fiber glass carrier can be formed by conventional fiber glass processing techniques, such as air-laid mat processes and wet-laid mat processes, and then further treated to provide increased surface area for .beta. the deposition of the photo-active material thereon. Treatments to increase the surface area of the fiber glass carrier include etching with acid solution and coating of the fibers with a high surface area silica. Additionally, methods of distributing the photo-active material in carrier during the formation of the carrier are disclosed.
L'invention concerne un support en fibre de verre qui présente une grande aire superficielle et s'utilise comme support de matériaux photosensibles, tels que des matériaux photocatalyseurs ou des matériaux photovoltaïques. Le support en fibre de verre peut être formé par des techniques classiques de traitement de fibre de verre (telles que des procédés de formation en nattes obtenue par voie pneumatique ou des procédés de formation en nattes obtenue par voie humide), puis retraité pour donner une aire superficielle accrue .beta. sur laquelle on dépose le matériau photosensible. Des traitements destinés à augmenter l'aire superficielle du support en fibre de verre consistent à graver les fibres à l'acide puis à les enrober d'une silice à grande aire superficielle. L'invention concerne en outre des procédés de répartition du matériau photosensible dans un support pendant la formation de ce dernier.
