P-332 FIBER OPTIC CABLE CONNECTOR ABSTRACT A connector for fiber optic cables is disclosed which includes an elastomeric body (50) with a central bore (56) for receiving a pair of optical fibers (16) and (20) and for holding them in alignment by compressing the body. A first connector body (24) includes a tapered split sleeve (36) in which is disposed the elastomeric body (50). A second connector body (26) defines a tapered socket (82) adapted to receive the split sleeve. The connector bodies are coupled together by a coupling nut (28) which, when tightened, compresses the elastomeric body and causes it to engage the optical fibers and hold them in accurate alignment. The connector bodies (24) and (26) are provided with compression fittings (30) and (32) which may be tightened against the respective cables to hold them in fixed position.
