An exemplary fiber optic cable (10) includes optical fibers (11-15) having selectors therein for selecting wavelengths in a premises interconnect system (100). The wavelength selecting function of fibers (11-15) of fiber optic cable 10 may be used to demultiplex a multi-wavelength signal (.lambda.1-.lambda.6). Jumper cables (40) having optical fibers with selectors therein may be used to demultiplex a multi-wavelength signal (.lambda.1-.lambda.6) for supplying distinct wavelengths to office units (41-46). Fiber optic cables (10,40) obviate the need for demultiplexer modules thereby saving space, and reducing equipment costs and insertion losses. The sections of the optical fibers containing the selectors may be secured in the connectors at the ends of the cable. Alternatively, the connectors may include fiber stubs containing selectors therein for ease of attachment either in the field termination of the cables or in the manufacture of the jumpers.
