Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to a fiber positioner. A fiber receptacle is provided having at least one groove extending from a precision positioning zone of each of the at least one groove to a capture zone of each of at least one groove where each groove is wider than at each precision zone. A unit is provided for holding at least one fiber sot that at least a portion of the length of each of the at least one fiber is respectively laterally exposable to each groove. Each fiber portion is able to be respectively brought together with each groove at each capture zone. The receptacle unit and the holding means have an initial orientation angle relative to one another. A unit is provided for flexibly providing a positioning pressure so that as each fiber portion is respectively brought together with each groove at each capture zone without bending of the fiber portion the relative orientation angle of the receptacle unit and the holding unit is automatically increasable to essentially zero degrees. The pressure also serves to advance each fiber portion in each groove beginning with the capture zone and reaching the precision positioning zone without the end face of each fiber contacting any surface of the groove.
