ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Alloy fibers having high fluid-holding capacity, and a method for making the same, the alloy fibers being comprised of a matrix of regenerated cellulose having 5 to 25 weight percent of alkali matal salts of cellulose sulfate being dispersed therein. The sulfate salts may be present in combi- nation with an anionic polymer. The high fluid-holding capacity is at least 4.8 ml per grams as measured by the Demand Absoxption Test. The fluid holding capacity of the alloy fiber may be increased by subjecting the regenerated fibers to treatment with a cross-linking agent before finishing.
