A fibre Bragg grating (34) is used to stabilize the intensity and frequency fluctuations of a diode laser (26). The diode laser is connected with an opto-mechanical apparatus to the fibre which contains the grating. The grating is formed in the guided-mode region of the optical fibre (32). The wavelength of maximum grating reflectivity is selected to lie near the maximum of the diode laser gain bandwidth. The output facet of the diode laser has a reflectivity approximately equal to or greater than that of the fibre Bragg grating. The magnitude and bandwidth of the grating reflectivity stabilizes the diode laser output without appreciably reducing the optical output power from the end of the fibre. The bandwidth of the optical spectrum of the diode laser is selected depending on the distance of the grating from the diode laser.

On utilise un réseau de Bragg (34) sur une fibre pour stabiliser les fluctuations d'intensité et de fréquence d'une diode laser (26). La diode laser est reliée par un appareil opto-mécanique à la fibre qui porte le réseau. Le réseau est formé dans la région de guidage de la fibre optique (32). La longueur d'onde de la réflectivité maximale du réseau est choisie pour se trouver près du maximum de la bande de gain de la diode laser. La facette de sortie de la diode laser présente une réflectivité approximativement égale ou supérieure à celle du réseau de Bragg. La grandeur et la largeur de la bande de réflectivité du réseau stabilise la sortie de la diode laser sans diminuer d'une manière appréciable la puissance optique disponible à la sortie de la fibre. La largeur de bande du spectre optique de la diode laser est choisie en fonction de la distance entre le réseau et la diode laser.
