Fibrous material batts are produced from a mixture of natural and synthetic fibres. A sliver (10) of the fibres is fed through a lapping device (11) onto a moving conveyor to form a continuous mat. The sliver is sprayed with a bonding agent and other optional substances during lapping. The mat is then compressed to a required thickness before curing the bonding agent, and is then cut to form batts of a low density. Resilience and fire retardance properties may be imparted to the fibrous material by including an octaborate salt among the substances sprayed with the bonding agent.

Panneaux de matériau fibreux constitué d'un mélange de fibres naturelles et synthétiques. Un ruban (10) de fibres passe dans une nappeuse (11) puis sur un convoyeur de façon à former un matelas continu. Pendant le nappage, le ruban est imprégné par pulvérisation d'un liant et facultativement d'autres substances. Le matelas est ensuite comprimé pour prendre l'épaisseur voulue avant le durcissement du liant puis découpé pour former des panneaux de faible densité. On peut rendre le matériau fibreux souple et ignifuge en ajoutant un sel d'octaborate aux substances pulvérisées avec le liant.
