Abstract of the Disclosure The invention is a field emission cathode comprising a cathode base composed of carbon or a high-melting-point metal and a needle-shaped cathode composed of glassy carbon. The cathode can provide a stable high field emission even in a high vacuum. The invention includes a method for the prepara- tion of such field emission cathodes.
