A FIELD EMITTING DEVICE AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME Abstract of the Disclosure A field emitting device includes at least one pyramidal shaped field emitting element on a surface of an electrically conductive substrate. The element has a pointed tip on which only is disposed at least one needle- like projection. In one embodiment, an electron extracting electrode is mounted in parallel spaced relation to, and electrically insulated from, the substrate surface. The electron extracting electrode has at least one aperture therein, the aperture being positioned substantially coaxially with a corresponding pyramidal shaped field emitting element.
