An apparatus for acting as a shock absorber for a truck towing a vehicle mated with a fifth-wheel, or a gooseneck, hitch. A fifth-wheel, or gooseneck, trailer has members extending away from the trailer bed and converging. A cylindrical housing, having a longitudinal axis aligned substantially perpendicular to the bed of the trailer, is attached to the members at the end where they converge. A kingpin, having a fifth-wheel, or gooseneck, connector, is coaxially mounted in the housing. A lever, having a fee end, extends from the kingpin over the rear of the truck. A resilient means, extending between the free end and the rear of the truck, bias the rear of the truck toward the free end. With this structure as the distance between the free end and the rear of the truck increases, additional bias is place on the rear of the truck tending to raise the rear of the truck. The resilient means thus acts as a shock absorber.

La présente invention a pour objet un dispositif servant d'amortisseur aux camions utilisés pour remorquer les véhicules destinés à être remorqués par l'intermédiaire de sellettes ou d'attelages en col de cygne. Les remorques destinées au remorquage par l'intermédiaire de sellettes ou d'attelage en col de cygne comportent des longerons qui convergent l'un vers l'autre en s'éloignant de la remorque. Un boîtier cylindrique dont l'axe longitudinal est essentiellement perpendiculaire au plancher de la remorque est fixé au point de convergence des longerons. Une cheville d'attelage avec connecteur pour sellette ou col de cygne est en montage coaxial à l'intérieur du boîtier. Un levier est relié à la cheville d'attelage, son extrémité libre dirigée vers l'arrière du véhicule. Un dispositif résilient, placé entre l'extrémité libre et l'arrière du camion exerce un effet d'absorption. Dans cette structure, la capacité d'amortissement du dispositif augment en fonction de la distance entre l'extrémité libre et l'arrière du camion.
