A filament (1) for irradiating a living body comprises a core (2) of material capable to irradiate radioactive radiation clad in a tubular casing (3) of protective material different from the material farming the core. The materials forming the core and casing have a purity not less than 99.5 atomic percent and a grain size not exceeding 30 µm and the outer diameter of the filament (1) is not less than 80 µm.
