The centering portion (56) contacts an inner surface of the lamp envelope (82) at a plurality of discrete, circumferentially spaced-apart contact regions that are substantially equally spaced from the central axis (94). The filament supports (50) are attached to opposite ends of the filament (80) for accurately centering the filament (80) within the lamp envelope (82). The filament supports (50) are particularly useful in a tubular incandescent lamp capsule having an infrared reflective coating (96) on its outer surface.
