A file cover restraining device (figure 1) includes a strut-like restraining member (11) for bridging the inside surfaces of the file cover members (12, 13) and constructed from first and second elongate strut members (14, 15) interconnected for relative longitudinal sliding movement thereby to adjust a length of the restraining member (11) to match the separation of the cover members (12, 13) and retained in a selected position by manually operable latches (23, 41). The first strut member (14) has a hook (41) on an end thereof remote from the second strut member (15), a first cover mounting portion (16) being pivotally connected to an end of the second strut member (14) remote from the first strut member (15) and having adhesive (54) for attachment to an inside surface of one cover member (12) and, a second cover mounting portion (17) has adhesive (64) for attachment to an inside surface of the other cover member (13) and is formed with an eye (23). The hook (41) and eye (23) are releasably engaged by pivotal movement of the restraining member (11) toward the spine.

Une première partie du dispositif (16), destinée à se fixer à la couverture et reliée pivotante à l'extrémité du deuxième élément entretoise (15) opposée au premier élément entretoise (14), est revêtue d'un adhésif (54) pour la coller à la surface intérieure de l'une des couvertures (12). Une deuxième partie du dispositif (17) destinée à se fixer à la couverture et revêtue d'un adhésif (64) pour la coller à la surface intérieure de l'autre couverture (13) présente par ailleurs un oeillet (23). Le crochet (41) et l'oeillet (23) s'emboîtent réversiblement par pivotement de l'élément de fixation (11) en direction du dos du classeur.
