An interlock mechanism for a multi-drawer file cabinet assembly, for preventing more than one drawer from being opened at a time. The interlock mechanism includes a series of control rods mounted for axial movement within a series of blocks located in the interi- or of the cabinet. The control rods are arranged in an abutting end-to-end relationship, forming joints therebe- tween. A pivotable lever is mounted to the blocks adja- cent each joint, and an actuator member is mounted to each drawer. Movement of a drawer to its open position causes engagement of the actuator member with one of the levers, to pivot it to a position in which the lever separates adjacent control rods, resulting in upward or downward movement of the control rods and vertical dis- placement of the joints between adjacent control rods. The remaining levers engage the control rods at a loca- tion spaced from a joint between control rods, to prevent the remaining drawers from being opened. Movement of the drawer back to its closed position causes engagement of the actuator member with the pivotable lever, to pivot the lever to its inoperative position out of engagement with the control rods. The control rods are returned to their original abutting position under the force of springs.
Système d'interverrouillage pour classeur à tiroirs multiples conçu pour empêcher l'ouverture de plus d'un tiroir à la fois. Le mécanisme d'interverrouillage comporte une série de tiges de commande dont le montage autorise un mouvement axial à l'intérieur d'une série de blocs situés à l'arrière des tiroirs. Les tiges de commande sont disposées bout-à-bout, un joint séparant leurs extrémités. Un levier pivotant est monté sur chacun des blocs à proximité de chacun des joints, et un organe de commande est fixé à la paroi arrière de chaque tiroir. L'ouverture d'un des tiroirs met son organe de commande en engagement avec un des leviers pivotants, ce qui a pour effet d'ouvrir le joint entre les extrémités des tiges adjacentes et de les déplacer verticalement vers le haut ou vers le bas. Les leviers des autres tiroirs se retrouvent dans une position ou ils interdisent l'ouverture des autres tiroirs. La fermeture du tiroir ramène l'organe de commande en engagement avec le levier pivotant et le remet dans sa position de non engagement avec les tiges de verrouillage. Les tiges de verrouillage retournent à leur position initiale où elles sont maintenues bout-à-bout sous l'action de ressorts.
