The invention relates to a filling nozzle cut-off valve for use in liquid filling machines and in particular to a valve assembly suitable for use with virtually all fluids. In general, the valve assembly includes a valve head having an operational surface and a valve body having a smooth surface aligned with the operational surface of the valve head. Inlet and outlet passageways extend from ports to a plurality of passageway openings in the smooth surface area of the valve body and the operational surface of the valve head has a shallow recessed portion and an annular ramp opposite the passageway openings. A compressed air line is adapted to receive air under pressure to normally hold the diaphragm against the smooth surface of the valve body. When the fluid in the inlet passageway is subject to a pressure greater than the air pressure, the diaphragm shifts away from the smooth surface permitting the fluid to flow from the inlet passageway opening to the outlet passageway opening.
