A film dispenser comprises a holder for a roll of packaging material. The holder is carried by a support which includes a handle. A brake roller is carried by the support and engages the peripheral surface of the roll. Biasing springs bias the roll and brake roller together whereby a braking force is established on the roll restricting rotation thereof and facilitating stretching of the packaging material when it is withdrawn from the roll and around the brake roller.
