2067198 9203014 PCTABS00010 A film scanner is disclosed which comprises a dynamic film gate (11). The film gate (11) includes a pair of capstans (12) for supporting the film (16) at an imaging station (18) and a pair of belts (20) which clamp the film (16) against the capstans (12). The capstans (12) are driven to advance the film (16) through the imaging station (18). An integrating cylinder (41), located between the capstans (12), produces a line of light on the film (16), and light transmitted through the film (16) is imaged onto a linear CCD image sensor (23).
