ABSTRACT A filter apparatus for pressurized material in flowable form, such as molten synthetic resin, in which an elongated filter web which moves into and out of a filter chamber through respective sections of sealing channel has a plurality of seal members of thickness greater than the thick- ness of the filter web, sized for internal sealing engagement with imperforate walls of the channel sections. The lengths of the channel sections are greater than the spacing between successive seal members, ensuring throughout operation that at least one seal member is located in each channel section to seal the filter chamber from external space, while enabling the filter web to be stabilized. Preferred forms of the seal members enable the filter web to be effectively supported by a support member while in filtering position, and enable the pressure of the fluid being filtered to assist in the sealing action.
