A filter apparatus for filtering machine tool coolant is disclosed as including a disc filter assembly (24') including a hollow rotatable mandrel (100) having perforations (102) and a plurality of removable hollow disc filter element (88') mounted on the mandrel (100) in a driven relationship. Each disc filter element (88') has a filter portion (104) for receiving the machine tool coo- lant into the hollow of the filter element (88') and a hub portion (106) of a cross-sectional shape configured to key to the predeter- mined cross-sectional shape of the mandrel (100). A plurality of spacer elements (108) functions to space the filter elements (88') along the mandrel (100) and also to provide a bearing surface (128) for supporting a scraper blade assembly (130) for relative ro- tation with respect to the mandrel (100).
